This is an initiative launched by Fundación Telefónica and Fundación Bancaria "laCaixa" that aims to reduce the global education gap. There currently are active projects in Africa and Latin America, and it will expand to Asia in 2017.
It´s mission is to change the world using digital education, because only through technology it will be possible to give equal access to education to all children all around the world, regardless of their geographical origin. At present, 50 million children don´t have access to any kind of education and in view of this situation, ProFuturo aims to provide quality education to 10 million children at risk of social exclusion by 2020.
Moreover, the ProFuturo project originates from the cumulative experience of Fundación Telefónica, which has worked for more than 10 years in social intervention programs with children from vulnerable environments in Latin America and has contributed to the eradication of child labor and education progress, educating teachers on skills development to meet the challenges of the digital society. Since 2005, these programs have benefited directly and indirectly nearly 3 million children, and it is to greatly expand this impact that ProFuturo is created with the purpose of bringing Digital Education to the whole world for everybody to receive quality education, thus achieving the reduction of the education gap and inequality.
